WDSGlobal announces device management software for Everlink Wireless RED eSC100 handset, based on Microsoft Windows Powered Smartphone
19th February 2003
Following the successful launch of its over-the-air Device Management service for the first commercially available Microsoft Windows Powered Smartphone product, the Orange SPV, WDSGlobal is pleased to announce support for the EverlinkWireless' announcement of the RED e SC1100 Windows Powered Smartphone in North America.
WDSGlobal is working with Microsoft to provide Device Management and other self-help solutions for the Windows Powered Smartphone and Pocket PC platforms. The OTA tool allows device manufacturers, network operators and independent service vendors (ISV's) to configure complex GPRS, web, WAP, email and other settings over the air.
"Microsoft Windows Powered Smartphone is ideal for both work and play. With WDS Device Management services these devices come to life--ensuring quick and accurate provisioning and configuration of network and user settings," said Howard Gefen, director of Solutions Development for the Mobile Devices Division at Microsoft Corp. "We are pleased to be working with WDSGlobal in this exciting new market."
The WDSGlobal OTA service is complimented by a knowledgebase of service settings for major wireless networks and independent service providers (ISPs) - providing a simple mechanism to configure the device from the web. This "cold start" service allows a care rep within a network operator, a corporate administrator within the enterprise or even an end user to configure and personalise their Smartphone without having any knowledge of their operator or ISP's required settings.
David Ffoulkes Jones, CEO of WDSGlobal commented "We're pleased to be able to support Everlink Wireless in their announcement of the RED e SC1100 Windows Powered Smartphone. By offering a simple method to configure and personalise the Smartphone we remove one of the main barriers to the adoption of this new breed of device".
The WDS OTA platform provides configuration for devices from Nokia, SonyEricsson, Motorola, Siemens and those based on the Microsoft Windows Powered Pocket PC and Smartphone software. Major customers worldwide include Orange, Vodafone, AT&T Wireless, SonyEricsson, Nokia and Microsoft. WDSGlobal OTA allows network operators to roll out device management services to a variety of products quickly and inexpensively.
